The Bachelor of Health Science (BHS) with a major in Health Science is the first step toward a career in the rewarding field of healthcare. Students learn to think critically about various individual and public health issues and gain knowledge in the health care system, human disease and disability, and patient communication. Graduates go on to earn professional or graduate degrees in professions such as medicine, physician assistant, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and more.
The following information applies only to students who started at UF through Spring 2024. The core courses are lock-step, meaning students must taken them in the specified semester below.
Prerequisite Requirements
Students must earn a C or higher in the following prerequisite courses and maintain a 3.0 prerequisite and overall GPA:
- BSC2010 Integrated Principles of Biology I or BSC2005 Biological Sciences
- PSY2012 General Psychology
- CLP3144 Abnormal Psychology or DEP3053 Developmental Psychology
- STA2023 Statistics
- APK2105C Applied Human Physiology with Lab
- ENC2210 Technical Writing or ENC3453 Writing in the Health Professions, or approved substitute
In addition to the courses listed above, students are required to complete all general education, civic literacy, UF Quest, and university writing requirements by the end of the sophomore year.
