Application Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I find faculty research labs?
We recommend that you look for faculty on the PHHP webpage (https://phhp.ufl.edu/research), research centers website, (https://phhp.ufl.edu/research/research-centers-and-institutes) and on each faculty list within PHHP departments that match your career/research interests (https://phhp.ufl.edu/departments-programs).
  2. Should I contact faculty to see whether they are accepting Honors Students?
There is no requirement to contact faculty at this stage. The Application Review Committee is interested in your research interests regardless of current lab openings.
  3. Do I need to have a faculty mentor?
No, being in a lab is not a requirement to enter the Honors Program.
  4. If I am already in a lab, do I need to find another lab?
No, you do not need to find a secondary lab to gain entry into or graduate from the Honors Program.
  5. If I am involved in a non-PHHP research lab right now, will I need to find another lab?
You do not need to find a secondary lab to gain entry into or graduate from the Honors Program.
  6. What are the required minimum/maximum lengths for the application essay questions?
There is no minimum or maximum word length. There is no maximum character count. Questions can generally be answered in 4-5 sentences.
  7. How do I know whether the required Honors Program courses fit into my schedule?
Please contact your academic advisor and/or program director.
  8. When will applicants find out about Honors Program acceptances?
Decisions will be released in October.
